OUR TOP FIVE THINGS TO DO IN KALKAN
Kalkan Town is so beautiful, you may just want to chill out
and enjoy the unique atmosphere that Kalkan offers, there is so much
to do and see both in the town and close by, that you really should
explore the area. ABI Travel are just one of the tour providers
based in Kalkan, but one we recommend.
KEKOVA At Least one day of your visit should
take in a boat trip, Kekova is an area of natural beauty and a
trip that many guests return to. ABI Travel provide a very good
tour using there glass bottom boat with four lovely bays to swim
in and snorkel. The trip also takes in the fairytale village of
Simena, (only approachable by boat) and its Ottoman Castle.
This is a truly relaxing and enjoyable trip.
ISLAMAR TROUT FARMS Just Fifteen minutes drive
from the coast of Kalkan and you feel a million miles away, the
laid back village of Islamar is nestled high above the coast in
the Tauras mountains. A lovely drive through the winding roads
and scenic views takes you to the Trout Farms where you will
enjoy the freshest trout and other foods. A plentiful supply of
spring water fills the pools where the trout are bred. We prefer
to visit at Lunchtime when the restaurants are quiet and a
welcome drop in temperature and welcome breeze breaks the day.
The food is fresh, the prices are good and the views are
stunning.
SAKLIKENT GORGE The deepest and longest gorge
in Turkey, is a natural wonder of nature. This gorge is popular
with Turkish and tourist alike, its great fun but be prepared to
get wet on this tour. Lunch is taken at Yalapark, high up in the
Taurus mountains where you will enjoy stunning views over the
Xanthos valley. You will also be able to visit the ancient Tlos
a Lyciean / Roman site that is beautiful, boasting numerous rock
tombs, the remains of a Roman amphitheatre, roman baths and the
remains of an Ottoman castle. ABI Travel offer this tour, a very
enjoyable day with something for everyone.
KALKAN BOAT TRIP You simply cannot visit Kalkan
without taking a boat trip, a good selection of boats and tours
are available at the harbour, they are very good value for money
with half day trips, full day trips and evening sunset trips,
most include food, you can snorkel, take a mud bath or just
relax and enjoy the wonderful coastal views and crystal clear
waters. Yildiz is the boat we like, pictured left and run by
captain Osman and Captain Adem and there lovely family, they
have two boats and are wonderful hosts serving lovely food on
nice clean boats, book your boat trips at the start of your
holiday as they do get booked up.
BEACHES No holiday is complete without a trip
to the beach, Kalkan has its own small pebble beach with crystal
clear waters fed by natural spings just off shore. Numerous
local beach clubs compliment Kalkan, whilst slightly further
down the coast you have Kaputas beach pictured left, a very nice
beach accessed by about 180 steps, a lovely beach but no
ameneties. Further up the coast, Fifteen minutes by bus is
Patara beach, the longest beach in Turkey at 18km in legnth with
white sand, a bar, cafe, toiets and showers. A daily bus service
runs from the bus station and is very reasonable, a small
entrance fee is payable on entering the beach.
